In light of the recent child deaths and serious accidents in Georgia’s Child Care Learning Centers and Family Day Care Homes, and with recent studies highlighting the fact that the majority of Child Care Centers and Family Day Care homes in Georgia do not meet basic health and safety standards, now is the time for all who care for children in this state to unite for the sake of our children.
For over a decade, working in various positions in the field of Early Childhood Education in Georgia, I have yet to come across a parent, teacher, director, owner, or state agent who does not want the best for Georgia’s children. With caring individuals, various programs and resources, why are children still dying from preventable causes? How can we improve the quality of care for all of our children? The answers to these two questions start with a vision and a simple plan to transform early childhood education in Georgia.
We, at The Utopia Center, would like to share our vision. We envision child care settings that are safe and clean where child care providers commit to do no harm physically, academically, socially or emotionally. It may sound simple but a commitment to do no harm can be quite complex.
The first step toward realizing this vision is to ensure that we, parents, caregivers, teachers, directors and state agents, all share basic knowledge of what can cause harm to our children. Knowledge of Georgia’s rules and regulations for child care settings will be our starting point on this journey. On the following pages you will find the rules and regulations. Please visit Bright from the Start’s website for the most updated information.
Please unite with us and take this journey toward our shared vision at www.theutopiacenter.ning.com.
